The road out of UB10
M40 or A40 to the M25, round to the M20, and the Folkestone shuttle. On a run of this length the shuttle earns its keep by handing the driver a full set of hours rather than spending them on a deck.
The French leg is the A26, A10 and A63 to Irún, then the whole width of northern Spain. Porto and the north are reached on the A-52 and A-55 by way of Vigo. Lisbon and the Algarve are approached either through Salamanca and over the border at Vilar Formoso, or lower down via Badajoz onto the A6 — and then the A2 carries the load south.

Portugal wants a Portuguese tax number and a certificate of baggage alongside the usual inventory. The certificate is the document that most often stops a load, and it is worth beginning as soon as the tax number exists.

Collect on the date that is certain
The British end of this route has a date. Your buyer completes, the chain releases, and you have to be out. The Portuguese end frequently does not have a date at all, or has one that moves.
So the sequence that works is: collect here on the day that is fixed, list everything as it loads, hold it, and ship when Portugal is genuinely confirmed. It costs a holding period and it removes the alternative entirely — which is a loaded vehicle sitting somewhere expensive waiting on a notary.
On contents, older Algarve and Alentejo houses have thick walls, small windows and doors that predate modern furniture. Take a tape to the doorways at the viewing. It is the cheapest survey available and it has changed what people ship more than once.

01 Do you go through Spain?
Yes — there is no other overland way, which is why this is the longest drive from UB10 and why part-loads are so common on it.
02 What is the certificate of baggage?
A Portuguese document confirming that the goods are your used personal effects accompanying a change of residence. You apply; our part is making sure the inventory describes the same consignment.
03 Can you hold our things while the purchase completes?
Yes, and on this route it is close to standard. Collected on the British date, listed, held, and shipped when the Portuguese end stops being provisional.
04 Will our furniture fit an Algarve villa?
Send us the width of the entrance, the turn beyond it and the stair if there is one. Older Portuguese houses were built with deep walls and modest openings, and British furniture was not designed with either in mind.
05 Do you cover Madeira or the Azores?
Those are sea-freight questions rather than road ones, and a different trade from ours. Ask and we will say plainly whether we can help or point you at a specialist.
06 Are electricals worth taking?
Small ones, sometimes. Portugal is on the continental plug and voltage standard, and a washing machine or a range cooker almost never repays the space it takes on a run this long.
