Uxbridge to Ireland
Removals from Uxbridge to Ireland
The easiest international route on this site by a distance, and the one people still get wrong — because the simplicity is in the paperwork rather than the logistics, and the sailing is a fixed point that everything else has to fit around.
No customs file worth the name. One ferry booking that cannot be moved.
Who takes this route from Uxbridge
- Returning households — Irish families who came to west London for work and are going home, frequently after decades in the same house.
- Work relocations to Dublin, particularly technology and financial services.
- Moves to Cork, Galway and the west, often to a family property rather than a purchase.
The road out of UB10
Two realistic ways. Holyhead to Dublin, reached up the M40 and across on the M6 and A55 — the shortest sailing and the usual choice for anything going to Dublin or the east. Or Pembroke and Fishguard to Rosslare, down the M4 through Wales, which suits the south and the west better than the map suggests.
From Dublin the M50 distributes to the M1 north, the M7 and M8 for Limerick and Cork, and the M4 and M6 west for Athlone and Galway. From Rosslare the N25 runs west along the coast for Waterford and Cork, and the M11 runs north for Dublin.
Where we deliver
Customs, and the order to do it in
Ireland is in the EU and the UK is not, so a move from Uxbridge to Dublin is technically an export and an import. In practice a household move of used personal effects for somebody transferring residence is relieved of duty and VAT, and the process is considerably lighter than anywhere else on this site — but it is not nothing, and an inventory is still required.
Who obtains what
| Document | Obtained by | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Detailed inventory (valued) | Us | Prepared at the Uxbridge survey. Lighter scrutiny than elsewhere, but still the document the file is built on. |
| Transfer of residence declaration | Us | Prepared with you and lodged with Irish Revenue against the inventory. |
| Proof the UK residence has ended | You | Completion paperwork, a closing council tax bill, or an ending tenancy. |
| Proof of the Irish address | You | Deeds, a lease, or correspondence establishing where you are moving to. |
| PPS number, where you have one | You | The Irish personal public service number. Not always needed for the move; needed for most things after it. |
| Ferry booking | Us | Booked for a loaded vehicle and crew, which is the fixed point the whole plan is built around. |
Rows marked You are the ones that hold a load up when they are started late, so begin those first. Rows marked Us are built here from the inventory taken at your Uxbridge property.
The sailing is the fixed point
Everything on an Irish move is planned backwards from a ferry booking. A sailing does not wait, a loaded vehicle that misses one waits for the next, and the crossing has to be booked for a vehicle of a particular size with a driver aboard.
That makes the completion hour at the UB end more dangerous than it is on a domestic move. A key release that slips by a few hours is an inconvenience if you are driving to Reading and a missed sailing if you are driving to Holyhead. On this route more than any other we suggest collecting a day early and holding.
The other thing worth saying plainly: a great many of these are returning households who have been in the same west London house for thirty or forty years. The tenure question applies exactly as it does on a domestic move, and the loft is exactly as full.

Questions on this route
01 Is there customs paperwork for Ireland?
Yes, but far less than for anywhere else on this site. A transfer-of-residence declaration and an inventory, rather than a tax number, a registration certificate and a consular document.
02 Which crossing will you use?
Holyhead to Dublin for most eastern destinations, Pembroke or Fishguard to Rosslare for the south and west. The decision is ours, made on sailings and routing, and it does not change your price.
03 What happens if completion slips and we miss the sailing?
We rebook, and the plan already assumes that is possible. It is the main reason we suggest collecting a day early on this route and holding the load overnight.
04 Can you do part-loads to Ireland?
Yes, and the route runs often enough to make shared loads genuinely worthwhile. Departure follows the vehicle filling rather than your calendar.
05 Do UK appliances work there?
Yes — Ireland uses the same plug and voltage as the UK, which makes it the only destination on this site where taking your white goods is straightforwardly sensible.
06 Northern Ireland as well?
Yes, and it is simpler again. Ask and we will set out how the routing and the paperwork differ.
